Variegated Modulated Shawl
I know it's "modular" not "modulated", but really... after our "mod dom" (modulatory dominant) talk in music theory class today, "variegated modulated" is much more fun.
But yeah. I think modular knitting might be the answer to my variegated shawl dilemma. Check out what I found:
It's from Iris Schreier's Book: Modular Knits
Oh dear, something more to buy!

Purty. Yes, simpler stitch patterns really do show off variegated yarn beautifully, as I'm sure you've seen with Fiddlesticks' Easy Lace Mesh Triangle or Bloom in the new Knitty. I was wondering whether the stitch pattern in that Lacey shrug in the same Knitty might be something that would work with your Nonokitty mohair? (Not a fan of shrugs, myself, but it's a pretty lace, I think, and it doesn't look overly complicated.)
You know, I've been looking at the picture, and between Edgar and the Multidirectional Scarf, I bet you could pretty much figure out the construction of that shawl on your own...
Yeah, I think I might be able to!! (And maybe put the book on my Christmas list...)
I really like the shrug's lace, but it's a bit poofy. Ok - it's really poofy. I thought I might try to modify it... but I think it needs a solid yarn.
I need something magical that makes variegated/hand-painted yarn look the same when knitted up as it does in the skein.
